From December 2nd to 7th, Brasília becomes the epicenter of national boxing with the Coliseu International Boxing, an event that promises to bring excitement to the federal capital and, at the same time, pay a great tribute to one of the greatest names in the history of Brazilian sport: Adilson Rodrigues Maguila.
An undisputed icon of Brazilian boxing and world champion in two categories, Maguila will be remembered with a series of tributes. In October of this year, the boxer passed away. Two months later, in 2024, he will be honored as the great name of the edition of the Coliseu, which will bear his name in an immortalized way.
On December 7, during the grand final of the tournament, a special ceremony will be held with the presence of Irani Pinheiro, Maguila's widow, who will receive a symbolic plaque in memory of the eternal champion. In addition, a special trophy, named after him, will be awarded to the winner of one of the main matches of the night, as a way of remembering his legacy.
How will the Coliseu International Boxing work?
The Coliseu International Boxing will have an intense program, with a mix of attractions that aim to both promote major international fights and highlight the new promising Brazilian boxers. Between December 2nd and 6th, 16 young boxers up to 25 years old will compete in the Maguila Trophy for New Promises, a tournament dedicated to discovering new names that will represent Brazil on the world stage.
The competition will culminate in a grand final in the central ring, scheduled for the 7th, with the winner receiving a trophy in honor of the legendary boxer and a guaranteed spot at the Coliseum International Boxing 2025.
Event brings together tradition, emotion and innovation
The event is not limited to this revelation tournament. Major fights will also be the main attraction, with fights that promise to make history. The main card will feature exciting clashes, including the fight for the International Light Heavyweight Title, the South American Cruiserweight Title, the eliminatory round for the WBU Boxing World Title, as well as the Brazilian Titles in the Heavyweight and Female-Welter categories, in addition to the defense of the Brazilian Master Title.
For the public, the International Boxing Coliseum offers more than just fights. The Arena Hall will be transformed into a true modern coliseum, with state-of-the-art infrastructure. The central ring will feature cutting-edge technology, high-performance lighting and an immersive sound system that promises to offer a unique experience.
In addition, exclusive areas for socializing, eating and selling official products will be available to fans, who will also be able to participate in interactive experiences to learn more about the world of boxing.
The president of the Brazilian Professional Boxing Confederation, Adimário Teodoro, reinforces that the Coliseu is a true celebration not only of the disputes, but also of Maguila's legacy.
“This event is not only a celebration of boxing, but also an opportunity to honor the legacy of one of the greatest athletes Brazil has ever had. Maguila was more than a champion in the ring; he was an inspiration for generations. His story deserves to be remembered and celebrated, and we are proud to hold this tribute on such a grand stage as the Coliseu International Boxing,” he said.
