A pioneer in the UFC heavyweight division (up to 120,2 kg) and the first champion in the organization's history, Mark Coleman has no doubts: Jon Jones is the greatest MMA fighter of all time. In an interview with 'EssentiallySports', the former champion, who is close to turning 60, praised the talent and longevity of the current champion of Dana White's company.
Coleman recalled a training session he did with Jones, still in his 20s, before they both competed at UFC 100 in July 2009. At the time, he was full of praise for 'Bones', before they emerged victorious in fights against Stephan bonnar and Jake O'Brien, respectively.

“He’s really the GOAT. I have ownership because we had a sparring match before UFC 100. Jones was 20 years old. I beat the crap out of him, by the way. He’s a guy who works hard, always wants to learn. That makes him the best. We went straight into wrestling and I got to Olympic level, so I taught him a lot. I was 44 years old. He ended up giving me a spinning elbow because he was getting a little mad at me,” he said.
Asked about Jones' next opponent, whether Tom aspinall ou Alex Poatán, Coleman was confident in the current heavyweight champion's ability to overcome any challenge.
“It doesn’t matter who it is. Jones is unbeatable,” concluded the legend.
With 16 victories in title fights, an absolute record in UFC history, Jones built a trajectory marked by dominant performances and spectacular knockouts.
His victories over legends like Mauricio Shogun, Quinton jackson, Lyoto Machida, Rashad evans, Vitor belfort e Daniel Cormier, in addition to his title defenses, put him on a pedestal that few can reach.
