Scheduled to face Vicente Luque in the most important fight of his career, in UFC 310, which takes place this Saturday (7), Themba Gorimbo revealed his desire to face a well-known name in the welterweight division (up to 77kg): Colby covington. The reason is a disagreement that occurred when they were both teammates at the same academy in Florida.
In an interview with MMA Fighting, Gorimbo revealed that he had an argument with Covington after being kicked out of the PI (UFC Performance Institute) while trying to train. The Zimbabwean believes that the American crossed the line and guarantees that he will face the consequences for it.

“He kicked me out of IP in December 2023 when I was trying to train on the treadmill. IP is for everyone, and he thought IP was his. He was cutting weight to fight Leon edwards, and I understand that it can be difficult. But I was also going to cut weight, but I'm not going to the PI and cut weight and kick everyone out of the PI just because I think I own the company. That, to me, was the turning point. He crossed the line, and there are consequences for his actions, he will pay for it. Whether it's now or next year, he will pay for it,” Gorimbo said.
Themba Gorimbo explained that the incident with Covington in IP was one of the reasons why he had to leave the MMA Masters gym in Florida and transfer to his new team at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas. Although the American is not his next opponent, Gorimbo is now focused on targeting the fighters he wants to face on his journey to the belt.
“This incident is one of the reasons I had to leave the gym. My principles and his. We’ll find out when we have this fight. Slowly but surely. I know he’s not the next one for me, but right now I have to start putting targets on the guys I want. On my way to the belt, I want to get past him. I’d like to fight the ranked guys, and he’s one of the guys I’d like to get past before I get to the title,” concluded the Zimbabwean.
Themba Gorimbo is going through a great phase in the Ultimate, coming off four consecutive victories after suffering a defeat in his debut in the organization at the beginning of 2023. The Zimbabwean has the chance to enter the welterweight rankings (up to 77kg) when facing the 14th placed, Vincent Luque, at UFC 310, this Saturday (7).
