The rivalry between Jamahal hill e Alex Poatán gained a new tense chapter this Thursday (5), when the two met at the UFC Performance Institute (PI), in Las Vegas. The atmosphere heated up when the current light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg) threw his gloves on the floor to challenge the North American, who did not give in to the provocation. On his YouTube channel, Hill revealed the details of what happened during the meeting, clearly explaining what caused the confusion.
According to Jamahal's account, the situation began in a seemingly calm manner. The American, after finishing his training session, approached Poatan, who was working at UFC PI. He stated that he wanted to resolve the provocations personally, without resorting to 'X' (formerly Twitter), as had been happening.

“I was at (UFC) PI today and Alex Poatán I was there. I finished training and he was working. I thought: 'Let's talk'. We don't need to wait to say something on Twitter, because we were already there. I arrived and told him not to run away from the heavyweights. We still have things to resolve", said the former champion.
It was then that Poatan, apparently in a provocative tone, made a comment to the translator. Hill stated that the Brazilian had said something like: “Did you just wake up? Are you still sleeping?” The dialogue would be an allusion to the knockout in UFC 300, when the São Paulo native brutally knocked out his rival in the first round.
'Put on the gloves'
The provocation seemed to be an attempt to destabilize Hill, but the former champion was not affected. The next moment intensified the situation even further. Poatan threw his gloves on the ground, suggesting that the confrontation take place right there, at the UFC training center. However, Hill did not give in to the challenge.
“He found a fake way to tell me to put on the glove and go to the octagon, but I refused. We didn’t need the glove. We already had our hands there,” he added.
Fortunately for both parties involved, the situation did not escalate into a physical confrontation, thanks to the quick intervention of coaches Plínio Cruz and Pablo Sucupira, who prevented the tension from turning into a real fight.
