After perfect season, Alex Poatan wins 'Fighter of the Year' award in 2024

Alex Poatan has once again shown that he is among the biggest names in current MMA. The Brazilian was recognized as 'Fighter of the Year' at the World Awards, last Thursday (5), after a season of impressive victories. At 37 years old, the fighter headlined three events and achieved devastating finishes against names like Jamahal Hill , Jiri Prochazka and Khalil Rountree . The award considers the period from July 23 to June 2024.

However, Poatan's path to the prize was not easy. During his preparation for facing Rountree, the fighter had to deal with a series of obstacles, such as a sore throat that required antibiotic treatment, a fractured rib and even a torn ligament in his finger, all while preparing for another big fight in the UFC.

In April, UFC 300 needed a headliner, and Alex Poatan proved ready for the challenge. He accepted the mission to face Jamahal Hill , which was just the beginning of a series of fights that solidified his position at the top of the light heavyweight division.

After that, still in the same year, the Brazilian was chosen to replace Conor McGregor at UFC 303 , where he successfully defended his belt against Jiri Prochazka . And, to crown the year, he faced Khalil Rountree Jr. at UFC 307 , also with an overwhelming victory.
