Diego Lopes surprises and wins 'Submission of the Year' award after lightning victory in UFC

Diego lopes received, last Thursday (5), one of the greatest recognitions in world MMA: the Submission of the Year award at the 'World MMA Awards'. The award, which considers fights held between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024, celebrated the impressive victory of the Amazonian over Gavin tucker, at UFC Nashville, held in July of the previous season.

Less than two minutes into the fight, the Brazilian showed off his skills on the ground. He surprised his opponent and applied a lightning-fast submission that sent the crowd into a frenzy.

The fight started with Gavin tucker trying to take the initiative. The Canadian opened the fight with two high kicks that hit the Brazilian's guard, but failed to cause significant damage. Lopes, in turn, remained calm, waiting for the right moment to react.

With a great reading of the game, he began to respond to Gavin's attacks with precise counterattacks, waiting for the opportunity to take the fight to the ground, where he is notoriously more dangerous. The turnaround happened shortly after his opponent managed to take him down, putting the Brazilian in an inferior position.

However, Diego did not let himself be shaken and, unexpectedly, tried an armbar, creating a risky situation for the Canadian. Tucker's defense was efficient, but not enough to avoid the fatal blow. In a quick and very well executed transition, Lopes locked in a triangle and forced Gavin to give up.
