Although Shavkat Rakhmonov is seen as the favorite to face Ian Garry in the co-main event of UFC 310 , not everyone believes in the Kazakh's victory. In fact, one of the people who see a victory for the Irishman this Saturday (7) as a more likely scenario belongs to the 'Nomad's' own academy.

Paul Hughes , also Irish and the next challenger for the Bellator lightweight title (up to 70,3 kg), stated in an interview with the American website Bloody Elbow that he believes in Garry's victory.
“I’m absolutely confident that Ian will beat him. Which is maybe something I shouldn’t say because I’ve been sharing the mats with Shavkat for the last few weeks. But at the end of the day, that’s just my opinion and everyone has an opinion. I think Ian will go out there and win, definitely,” said Hughes, who trains with Rakhmonov at the Kill Cliff gym in Florida.
Although he currently trains with the Kazakh, the compatriots have known each other since the beginning of their careers, when they were still on the Irish national circuit. The two were even training partners in the past. When Garry won the Cage Warriors welterweight belt (up to 77,1 kg), Hughes was in his corner. Since then, the two have not trained together anymore, but they still maintain a good relationship.
