In the co-main fight of UFC 310, Ian Machado Garry was defeated by Shavkat Rakhmonov in a duel between undefeated welterweights (up to 77kg). Despite the unanimous decision loss, the Irishman hasn't changed the way he sees his career at all. And, in fact, he believes he did a good job against one of the scariest fighters in the division.

At the press conference after the UFC 310, Garry said that, despite the defeat, he does not consider himself a loser. The Irishman highlights that, even with only three weeks of preparation, he faced an extremely difficult opponent and managed to resist almost everything Rakhmonov tried. Ian believes he showed his potential, landed two submissions and had control at important moments of the fight.

“I don’t feel like I lost today. I may not have gotten my hand raised, but I went out and fought a giant. I went out and fought the monster, and I showed him that he’s human. I went in there on three weeks’ notice, saved this event, saved this card, and fought the scariest man in the division. I went out there and stopped almost everything. There was never a moment where he looked like he was going to finish the fight, and I put him in two submissions. I took his back and had fun. He won by opinion, and that’s OK. That’s OK. I can live with that,” Garry said.

It is still unclear what comes next for Ian Gary, but the fighter believes that both he and Shavkat Rakhmonov are the best in the category. Therefore, a rematch or even a trilogy in the future may be inevitable.

“I said before the fight, I believe he’s better than everybody and I believe I’m better than everybody, and we’re going to see each other a lot. We’re going to see each other a lot in our careers. I don’t think we’re going to see each other just once, I think it could be twice. I think he’s so good, and I know I’m so good.” Ian Machado Garry.
