Ultimate announced that the rematch between Sean Strickland e Dricus Du Plessis, worth the middleweight title (up to 83,9 kg), is scheduled for the UFC 312, which will take place in Sydney, Australia. In the first meeting, Du Plessis and Strickland fought a five-round battle, with the South African emerging victorious in a controversial split decision. Robert whittaker, who was once the division's champion, gave his opinion on who will have their arm raised and the belt buckled at the end of the fight.

On the MMArcade podcast, Whittaker said he believes fans will likely see a repeat of their first meeting. The Australian claimed the champion fights aggressively and questioned whether the challenger could do anything differently to change the outcome.

“In my opinion, I don’t see the fight being any different. Du Plessis is a real warrior there. He’s going to come with the same aggression and the same game plan. What could Sean do differently to change the outcome?” Whittaker said.

Robert Whittaker believes Khamzat Chimaev would beat Du Plessis and Strickland

In his most recent fight, Robert whittaker was dominated and finished by Khamzat Shimaev still in the first round. The Australian believes that both the champion and the challenger would also not be able to stop the 'Wolf' due to his fighting style.

“I think he just takes them down and does the same thing he did, not necessarily to me, but like he did to Kamaru Usman or as he did with Gilbert Burns. I watch this type of fight, the way he goes for the initial takedown is insane. How do you stop this guy? Jump over him,” concluded the former champion.

Chimaev's victory over Whittaker was so convincing that it was thought that the Chechen would overtake Strickland and become the next challenger for the middleweight belt. However, with the announcement of the Strickland-Du Plessis fight in UFC 312, the 'Wolf' must face the winner of this fight.
