In the preliminary card of UFC 310 , Michael Chiesa secured his seventh rear-naked choke victory in the UFC, trailing only Demian Maia , who leads the organization's all-time record. At 37 years old, the veteran, who had accumulated three consecutive losses before winning his last two fights, found renewed motivation to keep his career active.

In the press conference, Chiesa stated that surpassing Demian Maia 's record has become one of his main objectives. He emphasized that, by progressing in this direction, he hopes to achieve an even greater goal: winning the division title.

“I saw that I tied with Kenny Florian with seven submissions by rear-naked choke – now I need to catch up with the great Demian Maia and try to get past nine. That created another small goal for me. Obviously, the goal remains the same. I want to be world champion; otherwise, what’s the point of fighting? If you don’t think you’re the best in the world, if you’re not going after the title, why the hell are you doing it?” said Chiesa.

At UFC 310 , Michael Chiesa surprised his opponent by landing the best strikes on his feet and securing the submission in the third round. For the American, this fight will be one of the most memorable of his career, not because of his opponent, but because of the unique circumstances surrounding the event.

“These last 24 hours have been very special for me. I’m not going to lie. Between receiving my black belt (on Friday) and getting a submission victory on my birthday, I don’t think I’ll ever have a better 24-hour period in my life outside of my wedding. I’m very, very happy with my performance,” concluded Michael Chiesa.
