Renato Moicano believes he is ready to fight for the UFC lightweight title (up to 70,3kg). The Brazilian will return to the octagon on January 18th at UFC 311 against Beneil Dariush . The main event will be a title fight in his division between current champion Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan.

“If the UFC offered me a fight like Dan Hooker or someone in the top 5, of course I would accept. But it is what it is. I don’t have much say in how these things work. But I’m sure the UFC knows what it’s doing, especially fighting on the card on the same day, as a big card, a huge card. On the same day as Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan , my plan is to go there, dominate Dariush, finish him, grab the microphone and make my case for a title fight,” Moicano said.
The journalist expressed surprise at the Brazilian's ambition, who made a point of mentioning that he is on a six-fight winning streak in the category, with five submissions. The number 10 ranked fighter also disregards his loss to fellow Brazilian Rafael dos Anjos , which was at a catchweight of 75 kg, at UFC 272.
“I don’t know, why not, exactly, why not? If you look at it, if you go to ‘tapology,’ or if you look at my record now, in the lightweight division, I have six fights. I’m on a six-fight winning streak in the category with five submissions. Who else has those stats in the lightweight division? Nobody, nobody. Five submissions in the last six fights and six winning streaks in the lightweight division. People keep talking about Rafael dos Anjos ’ fight . It was 75kg until they realized it wasn’t 70kg. So, try to see if there’s another person in the top 15, in the top 10, in the top 5, with six consecutive wins and five stoppages. I think nobody has those stats right now,” Moicano concluded.
But what about Paddy Pimblett?
In the top 15 of the lightweight division, there is indeed no other fighter with a six-fight winning streak, five of which were by knockout. But there is someone who comes very close. That's Renato Moicano 's rival , Paddy Pimblett , who has a six-fight winning streak, but two of those wins were decided by the judges. The British fighter is ranked 13th.
With constant back-and-forth exchanges on social media, there was much speculation that UFC London , announced for March of next year, would pit Moicano and Pimblett against each other. But with the Brazilian's announcement at UFC 311 in January, the fight is unlikely to happen.
