Even though he is one of the top welterweights (up to 77,1 kg) in the world, Colby covington became famous for his aggressive and disrespectful statements against other UFC fighters. “You’ll definitely get a warning (from the UFC) sometimes if you’re racist or if you’re going after someone’s religion. But I would never go after those two things. I’m going to expose things that need to be exposed because it’s the truth and it’s honesty,” the fighter said in an interview with Patrick Bet David on YouTube.
When asked about his statements regarding his late father, Leon edwards, at the press conference held before the UFC 296, in December 2023, the American maintained his speech and refused to apologize.
“You can look at the public records about his father. And it’s not my fault, he was the one who put him in the spotlight and made him a sympathetic figure,” said Covington, who was defeated by the Englishman on that occasion, by unanimous decision.
