While maintaining his dominant reign at flyweight (up to 56,7 kg), Alexandre pantoja increasingly suffers from the lack of worthy challengers. After easily finishing the debutant Kai Asakura No. UFC 310, the Brazilian even challenged the legend Demetrious Johnson, retired from MMA, but was promptly answered with a “no”.
Participating in the 'Ariel Helwani Show' last Wednesday (11), the champion once again analyzed his possible targets and pointed out one as a favorite in the current circumstances: the New Zealander Kai Kara France, fourth in the ranking.
“Yes, I’m interested in Kai-Kara France. I think for now that’s the fight that makes sense. He’s lost two of his last three fights, but for now, after what I’ve done with the division, nothing else makes as much sense. I’ll fight the number one, number two, top 10, then they’ll bring in a guy from outside. Everyone has had a chance,” Pantoja said.
Kai Kara France would be an unprecedented rival for Alexandre pantoja in terms of professional record, but in practice, it would be a rematch. This is because the two faced each other during the 24th season of 'The Ultimate Fighter', the official UFC reality show whose fights are not included in the official count of the athletes. On that occasion, the Brazilian defeated and eliminated the New Zealander by unanimous decision of the judges.
Although it is not exactly an unprecedented confrontation or an opponent riding a winning streak, Alexandre pantoja believes that Kara-France makes more sense than the other two names proposed by Ariel Helwani: Muhammad Mokayev e Deiveson Figueiredo.
“Kara-France is a very exciting fighter. He is someone who will take me to another level. Of all of them, Kara-France is the only one in my division. Mokaev is not on the UFC roster and Figueiredo is coming off a loss. Anything can happen, nothing makes sense right now, but I am ready for the UFC to give me Kai Kara France. This fight could do good pay-per-view numbers, but I'm not going to Australia,” he concluded.
