Patrício Pitbull requests official release from PFL, targets UFC and mirrors himself on Poatan: 'I want to be champion'

The patience of Patrick Pitbull with the PFL has come to an end. A fierce critic of the way the organization has dealt with fighters since the acquisition of Bellator, the Rio Grande do Norte fighter revealed that he has officially requested a release from his contract and sees the UFC as an ideal new home.

In a recent interview with 'MMA Junkie', Patrício revealed his request for release and spoke a little about the reasons that led him to make such a decision.

“I want an unconditional release from my contract with Bellator and to fight the UFC champion immediately. My contract is coming to an end, I don’t have much time left with them and I don’t have the desire to continue fighting for them. I would rather they release me and we go our separate ways. I’ve been a part of the organization for a long time. I’ve been the most vocal fighter in support of Bellator. No one has praised the organization as much as I have. There have been changes and things have gone very differently than what was promised. It doesn’t feel the same anymore. It feels like the right time for me to be more selfish, think about myself and thank the organization for everything they’ve done for me, but go our separate ways,” he said.

Greatest fighter in Bellator history, Patrick Pitbull believes that a possible UFC title will serve to further validate his achievements in the sport with the general public.

“Everything I’ve done in the last two decades, in 15 years at Bellator, as impressive as they were, I always felt a lack of attention from the press and fans because I wasn’t in the UFC. I know how big my achievements are, but they’re not as recognized by the public. I think becoming UFC champion would cement everything I’ve done so far. I’m in the final years of my career, but I’m in great shape, and I can fight anywhere with these guys and become UFC champion,” he assured.

Born on the same day July 7, 1985 as Alex Poatán, UFC light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg) and 'Fighter of the Year', Patrick Pitbull he follows his compatriot to become champion of the biggest MMA organization in the world.

“I like to compare myself to Alex Pereira. We were born on the same day, we are both 37 years old. He is the UFC champion now. I feel like I still have good years ahead of me. I want to become the UFC champion too. That’s what I’m going to do now. I have nothing left to prove in Bellator,” he concluded.
