When a fight is approaching, Colby Covington 's entire focus is on maintaining concentration and avoiding any distractions. And, this week at UFC Tampa , the welterweight (up to 77kg) is taking this strategy to a new level: he has isolated himself in a multi-million dollar mansion to avoid the other fighters at the hotel. The reason? According to the American himself, he doesn't want to deal with the exaggerated egos of other athletes, who, in his view, are prone to generating conflicts outside the octagon.
According to the fighter, this atmosphere of confrontation outside the arena is not something he wants for his preparation. He prefers the tranquility of an isolated environment to focus 100% on the fight.

“All fighters have big egos and love to talk trash when they know they’re not going to end up locked in a cage,” Covington said in an interview with MMA Guru.
With 17 wins and four losses in his career, 'Chaos' faces Buckley in a fight that could be decisive for his ranking in the division. However, Covington is experiencing a period of highs and lows: in his last five fights, he has only achieved two victories. This includes losses against Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman , all of them for the title.
In addition to his skills in the octagon, Colby also stands out for the aggressive way he promotes his fights, often using controversial statements to fuel rivalry with opponents or even outside the UFC. In a media day interview, he even provoked Jon Jones and LeBron James, the NBA star.
This Saturday (14), UFC Tampa will mark the closing of the organization's 2024 calendar. The event features 13 fights, with the highlight being the clash between Colby Covington and Joaquin Buckley , who will headline the night.
