“It was so good just watching him bleed and suffer. I just hoped the doctor would let it go a little bit longer because now you open the door for Colby to make excuses. He’s already making excuses. Man, you’re literally getting torn apart in every way possible. You were missing grappling, you were missing striking, you were missing kickboxing, you even missed the walkout because you ripped your shirt before you even got on the field, so you looked stupid doing that,” Muhammad told the MMA on SiriusXM.

The champion went further and stated that Covington's time at the top of the welterweight division is over.
“When people realize he’s not what people thought he was — they put him on this pedestal of, ‘Oh, man, he’s the cardio king. He’s this, he’s that.’ These new guys now, where we’re studying, we’re seeing things. There’s better athletes now, there’s better guys, smarter guys now that are seeing all this stuff. I think now that a person has realized, wait, this kid really sucks, he doesn’t belong in the top five in the UFC. I don’t think he’s going to beat anybody in the top 5 in the UFC. Now he’s realized the game has passed him by, and he needs to figure out what’s next. Maybe he’ll have a big fight against somebody, maybe, but there’s not much left for him,” Muhammad concluded.

The loss to Buckley marked a return for Covington, who had not stepped into the UFC Octagon since losing by unanimous decision to Leon edwards, in December of last year. It was Covington's third setback in his last four appearances in the organization's Octagon.
