Away from the octagons since July 2023, Jan Blachowicz is confident for his return in UFC London against Carlos Ulberg. The last time he fought, the former light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg) was defeated by Alex Poatan by split decision, in Salt Lake City. According to the Pole, physical exhaustion was a determining factor in the result, and he intends to correct this error against the New Zealander, a training partner of Israel adesanya.

In an interview with the program 'Home of Fight', Blachowicz acknowledged that, at this stage of his career, he needs to adapt his training and prioritize physical conditioning. He stated that he has all the tools to beat Ulberg, including knockout power and grappling, but highlighted that the focus will be on avoiding the fatigue that hurt him against Poatan.

“It’s a secret now, but I need to change something. Because I’m almost 42, so I need to train a little bit differently, but we’re going to do similar things. I know how to beat people. I know how to fight. I have to focus on what’s most important: I don’t want to get tired in the fight. So I need to focus on cardio. I have everything. I have knockout power, good striking, good wrestling and a good jiu-jitsu game. I need to focus on cardio because last time against Pereira, I was breathing really hard, and I don’t want to make that mistake again,” said the former champion.

Blachowicz wants to stop Ulberg's streak and get back on track to the belt

Blachowicz also praised the talent of Carlos Ulberg and his impressive winning streak, but he is determined to stop his opponent's growth. Like the New Zealander, he prefers to fight on his feet, but is willing to use his wrestling if necessary to secure victory.

“He’s a striking fighter. I’m a striking fighter. But, you know, if I need to use my wrestling, I’ll do that. It’s MMA, but I like to fight standing up, so for sure people will see a lot of strikes. He’s a very good fighter, with a good left hand and good footwork. I’m excited. Seven wins in a row, incredible. It’s time to stop him. I think if I win this fight in a good way, I’ll start talking only about the title fight, nothing else,” concluded Blachowicz.

Since losing the belt to Glover Teixeira, the Pole entered the octagon three more times, accumulating one win, one draw and one loss for the current champion, Alex Poatán. Now, at 41 years old, he tries to rediscover his good form and interrupt the promising player's seven-game winning streak. Carlos Ulberg.
