Former UFC champion claims to receive 'boxing money' in new MMA league featuring veteran fighters

Former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has reached an agreement with the GFL, which is scheduled to debut in 2025.

New to the MMA market, the Global Fight League, an organization that had its foundation recently announced, surprised many fans, mainly because of its cast, formed mainly by veterans and legends of the sport in an unprecedented format in the sport. One of the big stars of the new event, Tyron woodley explained the main motivation for returning to mixed martial arts and signing with the GFL.

In an interview with the 'Ariel Helwani Show', the former UFC welterweight champion (up to 77,1 kg) explained that the GFL has committed to paying “boxing money” to fighters.

“I like it because the old gangsters are gonna get paid, man. Making money boxing in MMA is perfect. I’m excited to be part of the new wave. I’ve been wanting to get back into MMA for a while. I’d just taken a break. It was a great opportunity and it made sense for me,” Woodley celebrated.

Having not fought MMA since the four-fight losing streak that culminated in his departure from the UFC in 2021, Tyron woodley explained that it has served as a sort of 'assurance' that the GFL should be taken seriously.

“I’m totally in the loop with the organization. I’ve had a lot of people call me asking if I’m in, because they know I’m not going to be in something that’s not going to lead to anything. I’m not going to be a part of something that’s not going to pay me well or put me on a platform where the media attention is going to build my brand. Pretty much everyone who’s signed with them has called me beforehand to make sure I’m in,” he explained.
