In a 2025 that promises to shake up the UFC divisions, the name of Alex Poatán continues to be highlighted. Tom aspinall, which is focused on challenging Jon Jones for the linear heavyweight belt (up to 120,2 kg), caused a stir by suggesting he wanted a fight between the Brazilian and Magomed Ankalayev, for the light heavyweight title fight.

On his official YouTube channel, Aspinall revealed that this is the fight he would most like to see in 2025. The British fighter said that the duel could be 'one of the best in UFC history'. According to Aspinall, the combination of styles would be fascinating: Poatan's striking against Ankalaev's wrestling.

“Alex Pereira against Magomed Ankalayev. A game of styles. A guy who comes from striking against a guy from wrestling. This fight needs to happen. It could be one of the biggest in the UFC, without a doubt, one of the biggest in the history of the light heavyweight division. I want to see it,” Aspinall said in his video.

However, what seemed like an exciting proposal to many, is not seen with the same enthusiasm by Alex Poatán. Last Wednesday (18), the Brazilian directly provoked Ankalaev in a post on social media. By sharing a compilation of his fight against Khalil rountree, at UFC 307, the star wrote a very clear caption: 'It won't be Ankalaev'. The phrase, which leaves no room for doubt, seems to indicate that the Brazilian is not interested in facing the Russian in his next commitment in the octagon.

The provocation did not go unnoticed. Magomed Ankalayev was quick to react. The Russian, in a defiant tone, accused Poatan of running away from the confrontation, calling him a 'chicken' for declining the possibilities of the fight happening.
