“I completely ripped my right big toe off my foot. I couldn’t run, walk, train, nothing for the whole week. I was really nervous about not being able to walk to the Octagon. In over 50 professional fights between MMA and kickboxing, I have never failed to show up on the day I committed to in my contract and I am very proud of that,” said ‘The Hanyak’ in an interview with 'MMA Fighting'.
“There were a lot of doubts, especially when I stubbed that toe. It was very similar to when Jon Jones fought against Chael Sonnen and his foot was pushed out and his big toe was ripped off. That's exactly what happened to my right foot." he explained.
Comparison
In 2013, Jon Jones knocked out Chael Sonnen in defense of the light heavyweight title (up to 93kg.) in UFC 159. But If the fight had gone beyond the first round, a doctor would most likely have stopped it. Jones suffered a serious injury where the top half of his big toe was torn in half. After the fight, footage showed that Jones' toe was hanging on by a piece of skin and he received immediate medical attention.
Persistence rewarded
By being able to be in the UFC Tampa, dustin jacoby won his first victory in a three-fight streak. He hadn't won since August 2023 when he knocked out Kennedy Nzechukwu in the first round.
