A new contender for the flyweight title (up to 56,7kg) will likely be determined in March at UFC Fight Night 253, when Brandon Royval faces Manel Kape . The fight between the former title challenger and the Portuguese fighter will headline the event on March 1st at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Both fighters have publicly confirmed the booking on social media.

Since losing to champion Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 296 , Royval has bounced back with two big wins. In February, he defeated former champion Brandon Moreno by split decision and followed that up by halting Tatsuro Taira 's momentum in a main event in October.
Kape is coming off a third-round technical knockout of Bruno Bulldog at UFC Tampa . His post-fight call for a title shot went unanswered, but during a post-event press conference, Dana White hinted that he would be happy with what they had in mind for him.
Currently, Royval is ranked second in the flyweight rankings while Kape is ranked sixth.
