Everything pointed to a title defense for the best fighter of 2024 against Magomed Ankalaev , the number 1 ranked fighter in the division, undefeated in 13 fights. However, Poatan surprised everyone by indicating that the Russian from the Republic of Dagestan is not his next opponent. Through the 'stories' on his official 'Instagram' profile, the Brazilian, accompanied by one of his managers, Ed Soares, revealed that he had a very productive meeting with the UFC, but remained mysterious about what is still to come.
“Look at the boy’s smile! Should I call him or not? We’re in Las Vegas, now heading home, very happy with the reunion. We missed ‘Joinha’ (Jorge Guimarães), right? Well, I’m too happy, man. This reunion… Should I tell you or not? Wait a little longer, okay?”, he joked. (see below)
In recent days, a rumor has gained traction about a potential fight between Alex Poatan and Khamzat Chimaev . The Swede, who started as a welterweight (up to 77 kg), currently occupies 3rd place in the middleweight rankings (up to 83,9 kg). Furthermore, there has been talk for months about a possible move up to the heavyweight category (up to 120,2 kg) where the Brazilian would face the legend Jon Jones for the title.
