Israel Adesanya has shown himself willing to take on new challenges inside the UFC octagon. The former middleweight champion (83,9kg) is focused on his next fight, scheduled for February 2025, where he faces Nassourdine Imavov, seeking redemption after two consecutive losses. However, the Nigerian veteran has already identified a name on the horizon that has caught his attention: Khamzat Chimaev.
On his YouTube channel, Adesanya made a point of highlighting his admiration for Chimaev's performance in his last UFC fight, where the Swede easily defeated Robert Whittaker , the former champion of the division, in the first round. The former UFC champion emphasized the aggressiveness and ease with which he dominated an experienced and high-level opponent, something that, for him, represents a great challenge in the future.

“I was surprised by the way Khamzat (Chimaev) ran over Whittaker. It was crazy. It was like, ‘Wow!’ It made me want to fight him. I was like, ‘Okay, shit, this guy is really good,’” Adesanya said.
Adesanya has previously mentioned Chimaev as a potential opponent, but his latest reaction to Khamzat's win over Whittaker appears to have further fueled that desire.
