After starting the year with two important victories, over Paulo borrachinha e Ikram Aliskerov, Robert whittaker ends 2024 further away from the title than he would like. The Australian was finished in a brutal way by Khamzat Shimaev in the first round, which temporarily removed him from the middleweight title race (up to 89,3 kg). However, Whittaker is considering following a different path to return to the race for gold in 2025.

During an episode of his MMArcade podcast, the former champion revealed that returning to welterweight (up to 77 kg) is not a viable option, as he would no longer be able to make weight. However, he is considering a possible move up to light heavyweight (up to 93 kg), although he is still undecided about this change.
“I wouldn’t go down. I can’t go down. I’m still toying with the idea of moving up to light heavyweight, man. I’m a big guy, a lot bigger than people think. I don’t know,” Whittaker said.
Although he can no longer make the welterweight limit today, Whittaker began his UFC career in that division, where he accumulated a record of three wins and two losses before moving up to middleweight and even winning the title.
