Paddy Pimblett disagrees with Islam Makhachev's award and says: 'I would finish Dustin Poirier'

As 2024 comes to a close, awards for the best performances of the year are common. Among them, the triumph of Islam makhachev against Dustin poirier with a final round finish has been gaining attention. However, for Paddy Pimblett, the victory of the current UFC lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg) is not worthy of the honor.

In a video published on his YouTube channel, the Englishman, who currently occupies 13th place in the category ranking, made a technical analysis regarding Makhachev's submission, in addition to comparing it with other performances that took place throughout the year.

“Obviously Islam’s submission is good, but it’s just a choke. I transitioned from the guillotine to the triangle and armbar, from the standup fight. I still think Khamzat’s submission was better, Khamzat vs. Robert whittaker was a better finish. Nobody did that with Robert whittaker”, said the Englishman.

Furthermore, Pimblett went as far as to say that due to the history of defeats by submission, Dustin poirier, would probably be able to beat the American in the same way.

“Poirier has been finished several times before. I would finish him Dustin poirier.No one submitted Bobby Green in like 12 fucking years or whatever.”
