Away from the octagon for four years, Khabib Nurmagomedov remains up-to-date on the UFC scene. Aware that Alexandre Pantoja is reigning supreme in the flyweight division (up to 56,7kg), the Russian believes that the biggest fight to minimize the lack of attention to the category would be a duel between the Brazilian and Henry Cejudo next.

“There is no other option for Pantoja. There is no fight. I think if they want a big fight for this weight class, they have to do this: Cejudo vs. Pantoja. We have to recognize the real things. For example, if I talk about you (Cejudo), I think you are old for this sport. But if I am a promoter like Dana (White), I try to get Pantoja to fight you because there is no one else. There is no one else. Cejudo vs. Pantoja is going to be a big name. Bring someone old with a big name, make them fight,” Khabib said during a conversation with Cejudo.

Still in conversation with the former double champion, Khabib organized the ideal calendar for Cejudo to follow and guaranteed that he will talk to Dana White about planning.

“You fight in February, take a vacation in March and start preparing for the fight in April. Fight in June (or) July, at International Fight Week, in the flyweight category, for the title. Can you imagine coming back and winning (the title)? It’s possible. I’ll talk to Dana too,” he said.

A highly successful fighter in the flyweight division, Pantoja is looking forward to shaking things up in the category by facing new names. In his last appearance, the Brazilian defeated Japanese prospect Kai Asakura , creating a new problem for the organization. On the other hand, Cejudo wants to return to winning ways after accumulating two consecutive losses. The American is a former champion in the 56kg and 61kg divisions in the UFC.
