Despite going through a difficult time in his career, with two consecutive defeats, Michael chandler does not rule out getting a chance to fight for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3 kg) if he puts on a violent show at UFC 314. Scheduled to face Paddy Pimblett on April 12, the veteran believes in the possibility of becoming the next opponent of Islam makhachev in case of victory in Miami.
“There is a world where I go there and crush the Paddy Pimblett. And it’s the ‘what have you done for me lately’ thing. And all of a sudden Islam wants to fight me and not someone else, and I fight him in June. Who knows? But that being said, all these names are on the table. Conor’s name has been mentioned. If Conor comes back this year, I’ll fight him,” Chandler said in an interview with 'Covers.com'.

Despite the proximity of dates, Chandler calculated that the time was perfect to prepare and face the Russian.
“I’m willing to fight Islam in June. The way that fight is going, I think I’ll have less than 60 days of suspension, maybe 30 days of suspension, and I could fight again in June, because the fight would be on June 28, I believe it is. So that’s like 10 weeks later, so I could come back immediately to prepare and fight for the world title,” he concluded.

Currently ranked seventh, Chandler has already fought for the belt in the category, but ended up being knocked out by Charles of the Bronx. Since then, the athlete has mixed victories and defeats while dreaming of a new opportunity to compete for the lightweight throne.
