Former UFC fighter and current analyst, Chael Sonnen revealed that he was impressed by the aura and posture of Alex Poatán during a recent meeting. In an interview with 'Submission Radio', the American described a curious moment in which the Brazilian questioned whether his handshake conveyed enough strength. According to him, the interaction reinforced the former light heavyweight champion's intimidating image.

“I said (to Daniel Cormier) that I met Alex Poatán, and he had this aura around him. He said he came up, shook my hand, and then asked through an interpreter, 'Was that a feminine handshake, or was it firm enough? ' He wanted to make sure it was firm. I said, 'Hey, I wasn't testing it. Give me another one.' He shook it again, and I said, 'No, it's not soft. It's a great handshake,'" Sonnen said.

The story took on an even more curious tone with the mention of the term “Chama”, used by Pereira in a context that is not entirely clear.

“I don’t know exactly what ‘Flame’ means, but I know it’s better to have it than not,” he concluded.

Poatan's 'Aura' in the UFC

The term 'aura', often associated with energy fields, is gaining currency in the world of fighting. In MMA, it refers to an athlete's ability to command respect, fear or admiration even before entering the octagon.

Poatan, who is one of the most popular fighters today, has built his reputation not only on precise strikes, but on a calm and almost impenetrable demeanor — a trait that, according to Sonnen, transcends the physical.
