Daniel Cormier publicly admitted that he deviated from his principles during the historic rivalry with Jon Jones in the UFC. In a chat with the former champion Dominick Cruz, the fighter admitted to having adopted an aggressive and invasive stance, including insulting his opponent's wife.
In an outburst that reveals the scars of one of MMA's biggest feuds, 'DC' Cormier admitted to having been consumed by the rivalry with 'Bones'.

“I lost myself in that fight because he took a side of me that I didn’t even know. I remember being on his commentary track, he was on mine, I was insulting his wife. It was horrible. I was like, ‘This is getting out of hand.’… She didn’t do anything. I apologize to Jon’s wife,” said the former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion.

Tensions between the two began when Cormier claimed he had been disrespected by Jones, then the light heavyweight champion. Their first fight took place at UFC 182 in January 2015 and was marked by an atmosphere of hostility. Jones won by unanimous decision after an intense fight.
The rematch was scheduled for UFC 200 in July 2016, but was canceled after Jones failed a drug test. Daniel, who had won the vacant title after his suspension, went on to pursue his career while 'Bones' was living the height of problems outside the octagon.
