Eyeing a new chance to fight for the featherweight belt (up to 65,7 kg) after a dominant victory over Patrick Pitbull No. UFC 314, last Saturday (12), Yair Rodriguez apparently opted for the path of praise, rather than provocation, in relation to the champion Alexander Volkanovsky.

In a recent interview with 'MMA Junkie', 'El Pantera', former interim champion and defeated by Volkanovski in the duel to unify the belts, in 2023, once again asked for a new chance against the Australian, whom he praised, defining him as the greatest featherweight in history.

“I don’t know if that’s the case, but I believe he’s one of the greatest of all time and he’s shown that. He’s been showing that for many years and I would be happy to face this new Volkanovski because he’s also been making changes to his diet and I think he’s motivated. He’s going to have his fourth child or something like that and I congratulate him for that and I can’t wait to face this new version of him,” said the Mexican.

The debate over the greatest featherweight in history gained even more momentum with the recent reconquest of Alexander Volkanovsky. Although the champion himself have recently pointed out José Aldo as the greatest of all time, Rodriguez ignored the Brazilian and assured that the Australian is the one who deserves the symbolic title.

“I think he’s the GOAT of the featherweight division. So far, of course. He’s the belt holder and he’s been the belt holder for I don’t know how many fights. I said it in an interview and I still say it: when he faced Ilia Topuria, he wasn't in the best moment. I think he gained more confidence after the last fight and I want to face him. I want to face this stronger Volkanovski, because I will also be at my best”, he concluded.
