The American, who won by split decision in Salt Lake City (USA), argued that the Brazilian, despite having 41 professional fights, did not demonstrate the technical ability to get away from the attacks against the fence.

The American's strategy, which included prolonged clinches and unsuccessful takedown attempts, generated boos from the audience during the event and disapproval from personalities such as Dana White and Conor McGregor. The UFC president even classified the tactic as 'uninteresting'.
