Ilia Topuria has officially started his training period for his next fight in the UFC, which marks his debut in the lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg) of the organization. On his official account on 'X' (former Twitter), the Georgian confirmed that he is sharpening his game and kept the mystery about his opponent.
“The champion has begun,” Topuria wrote on social media.

The weight class change, announced in February, required Topuria to relinquish the featherweight (65,7kg) belt, which was vacated after his victory over Max Holloway No. UFC 308, in October 2024. The agreement with the organization was linked to a direct promotion to the lightweight title, without the need for fights that guarantee the challenger position.
Two paths emerge for the challenge: the current champion Islam makhachev, or a fight for the vacant title if the Russian chooses to move up to welterweight. In the latter case, Charles of the Bronx emerges as an immediate opponent. The tension between the two fighters has even escalated in recent weeks with public criticism of the Brazilian's losing record.
Despite the start of training, the official date of the fight remains undefined. International Fight Week (Fight Week) in June, in Las Vegas (USA), is considered as a probable date.
