Former UFC champion talks about Charles do Bronx's future and warns: 'Enjoy it while you can'

The most populous category in MMA and home to UFC stars like Islam Makhachev , Charles do Bronx and now, Ilia Topuria , the lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg) may be close to a reformulation. At least, that's what Michael Bisping believes . The former middleweight champion (up to 83.9 kg) made a brief analysis this Wednesday (23) of the current representatives of the top 5 of the weight class and concluded that the careers of many of these athletes may be nearing their end.

“ Islam Makhachev still has a few years left in his career, and so does Arman Tsarukyan . But Charles Oliveira has been around for a long time. He'll probably retire in a year. Justin Gaethje is close to leaving the sport; he said he doesn't want to do it for much longer. Dustin Poirier has already said that his next fight will be his last. Max Holloway has also been around for many years and has had a lot of success; I believe he has a lot of money in the bank,” stated Bisping, current UFC commentator.

“I’m just saying, if you look at the lightweight division and some of the big names in it… So, enjoy it while you can, because they’re not going to be around forever,” concluded the former fighter.

At 35 years old, Charles do Bronx debuted in the world's largest MMA organization in 2010, already as a lightweight (up to 70,3 kg). Since then, the Brazilian has become the greatest finisher in UFC history and won the title in the category by knocking out Michael Chandler in May 2021. Currently, he is ranked second in the most populous division in MMA, and may be close to facing Ilia Topuria for the belt.
