Daniel Cormier does not agree at all with a possibility that has been quite inflated recently in the world of MMA: the stripping of the title of Islam makhachev. The former two-time UFC champion argued against the idea and the argument is very simple: Jon Jones is in worse sheets. The analysis of 'DC' is in the best style of the Brazilian saying 'the stick that hits Chico, hits Francisco'.

“You know what irritates me? Islam makhachev said, 'I don't want to fight with Ilia Topuria because he's a 66-pound fighter and I've done it. Give me another fighter.' People say, 'Take the belt away from him, he should be stripped.'” Daniel Cormier in conversation with Chael Sonnen in the program 'Good Guy/Bad Guy'.

“People say, ‘Makhachev, either take the belt or defend it.’ Why? In the last two years, he fought Volk, fought Dustin, fought Volk again and fought Moicano. He fought all of them, fought four times. In that time, the heavyweight champion fought once,” Cormier said.

The soap opera of the long-awaited confrontation between Jon Jones e Tom aspinall has been dragging on so long that it has caused English to catch up a historic brand within the UFC. The British knockout artist managed to break a bitter record for him, which had been set 11 years ago by a Brazilian fighter within the organization: the longest time as interim champion.

The Briton won the interim title on November 11, 2023, after knocking out Sergei Pavlovich No. UFC 295. Since then, the 535-year-old fighter has dominated for 32 days.

The previous record belonged to Brazilian and former bantamweight champion (up to 61,2 kg.) Renan Barao, who 11 years ago was the organization's longest-serving interim champion, at 534 days.
