Gilbert Durinho revealed a violent episode from his past: he was stabbed in the back during a street fight while defending a friend from an attempted robbery. In an interview with 'MMA Junkie', the Brazilian described details of a confrontation that left permanent scars on his body, even before he debuted in the UFC.

The former Ultimate welterweight (up to 77kg) title challenger recalled the moment he intervened to help a smaller Jiu-Jitsu partner who was the victim of a robbery. The action quickly escalated into a generalized conflict.

“I’ve only had two street fights, just two. It was super crazy, a guy stabbed me in one of them. […] It turned into a crazy, huge fight, everyone against us, we knocked out two or three people. […] When everything stopped, we were sweating… and I started to wonder why my back was sweating so much. I put my hand on my back, and there was blood everywhere. I got stabbed in the back a few times during the fight. But the adrenaline was so high that I didn’t even feel it,” said Durinho.

The outcome came with the arrival of the police, who dispersed the people involved by firing shots into the air. The Brazilian, although injured, only realized the severity of his injuries after the confrontation had ended. The scars, five or six deep marks on his upper back, remain as a physical reminder of the incident.
