UFC star and undefeated until his last fight, BoNickal had a reality check when faced Ridder's Reinier last Saturday (3). Saddened by the situation, Mike Brown lamented his pupil's defeat and was sincere in admitting that there was a hasty acceleration in the athlete's career in the Ultimate trajectory.
“It was a tough weekend, but maybe it was necessary. Things are moving quickly for BoNickal and so far, he has managed to make things happen and secure six submissions and seven wins with the limited experience he has. Bo has all the attributes you want when your goal is to become a mixed martial arts world champion. He is athletic, has a strong and confident mindset, a great family support system and started playing combat sports (specifically wrestling) at a very young age,” the coach posted on his Instagram.

Following the statement, Brown acknowledged that experience is necessary for a fighter to excel in MMA.
“These are all traits you want to look for when developing an elite MMA fighter, but the one thing Bo doesn’t have is live fight time in the cage, and for that there is no substitute. MMA fight experience is crucial and real cage time is extremely important. As a team, we were concerned about moving too quickly and realized the dangers of fighting such high-level opponents so early, but Bo is a unique athlete and the UFC has put him on a fast track.”

Finally, the renowned American Top Team coach avoided making excuses and recognized the Dutchman's merits in having dominated Nickal.
“Last weekend, Bo’s lack of experience was evident, his wrestling and athleticism were not enough to overcome what was in front of him. Ridder's Reinier, now with 20 wins and 2 losses, was a multiple two-division world champion with OneFC, a very respectable organization. Kudos to him for having a solid game plan and executing what was needed.”
