It wouldn't be unreasonable for most in the MMA community to think that the setback was just a detour in the fighter's promising career. However, to anyone who thinks that BoNickal to Ridder's Reinier revealed many more things behind the scenes and that he should even be released from the UFC.
This is what the former UFC fighter and former Strikeforce lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg) defends. Josh thomson. For him, BoNickal should be temporarily removed from the UFC roster to gain more 'body' in other competitions. He also cited the examples of Youssef Zalal e Mason jones, who even fought on the card of UFC Des Moines defeating the owner of the house Jeremy Stephens. Both were cut due to inconsistency when they arrived at the organization, but returned to the octagon after gaining more experience.
“The way he lost… the UFC, I’m really telling him, like, you know what? You need to spend a good eight months, and you need to go, you need to prepare for everything. We’re going to give you some time… We’re going to do it almost like we did with Mason jones or Youssef Zalal, and we’re going to send you away for a while. We’re going to give you eight months or something,” Thomson said on the podcast. 'Weighing In'.

For Thomson, Nickal's performance against Ridder exposed flaws that need to be corrected and a step back could help in a faster evolution.
“He needs to work. It was very revealing how much work he needs,” he concluded.
