Amid recent controversies about the current state of the UFC, Alex Poatán surprised everyone by posting an enigmatic message on his Instagram. The former light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg) used the tool to adopt a mysterious stance, without indicating whether or not the message had anything to do with the company chaired by Dana White.

“Everything I lose makes room for everything I need,” wrote the former UFC light heavyweight champion.

The cryptic phrase comes at a turbulent time in Poatan's career. The Brazilian, who defended his title three times in 2024, recently drew attention with a publication in 'X' (old Twitter) that expressed dissatisfaction with 'recent attitudes of the UFC' and hinted at the end of the fighter's career. However, minutes later, the São Paulo native denied authorship of the tweet controversial and attributed the publication to an alleged hacker.

To complete the wave of controversy surrounding the Brazilian, journalist Ariel Helwani, in the Monday (12) edition of his daily program, stated that the Pataxó refused a proposal to face Magomed Ankalayev No. UFC 317, scheduled for June 28th, but not because I didn't want to, but because I wasn't available on that date.

“Right now, they (UFC) don’t have a main event for International Fight Week. From what I’ve been hearing, what Magomed Ankalayev “The statement you posted is correct. They did, in fact, call Alex Pereira and offer him the fight. Ankalaev wrote that Pereira received the offer and did not want the fight. It’s not that he did not want it, he is unavailable. The timing is not working for him,” Helwani said.

At 37, Alex Poatán is one of the main names on the UFC roster. The Brazilian, who is also a former Glory champion, debuted in the world's largest MMA organization in 2021 and, since then, has accumulated nine victories, seven by knockout, and two belts. However, in his last appearance, he suffered his second defeat in the organization and was dethroned by Magomed Ankalayev.
