Strickland challenges former UFC welterweight champion after declining fight with Borralho

American recognizes that he currently has no options and turns to former MMA rival

After declaring that he has no interest whatsoever in facing Caio Borralho for reasons of friendship with the Brazilian, Sean Strickland surprised with a challenge. Willing to put his second-place position at stake, the fighter called Belal Muhammad | to move up a category and face him at middleweight.

“Belal, fuck you, dog. That’s it. Finally, you can pack your bags, man. All this shit you talk, man, we can finally make it happen. You lost the belt. You know, you’re screwed, I’m screwed. We should make this fight happen. It would be a good fight. I would love to fight with Belal Muhammad |. I mean, he said he wanted it. All that crap he talks. I guess if that's what he still wants, and that's what you want, I'm in. There's no one for me," Strickland told Helen Yee.

No longer welterweight champion (up to 77,1 kg.) Belal Muhammad | had expressed interest in moving to middleweight when Islam makhachev in fact ended up sharing the same division. After defeat to Jack Della Maddalena, however, the fighter has not yet spoken about the future, despite having already returned to MMA training.

Looking to get back to winning ways, Strickland finds himself with no rivals in sight at the moment. His only option at the moment would be a rematch against Israel adesanya, who has already expressed interest in a rematch against Tarzan. The UFC has not yet made the American's next step official.
