Chael Sonnen publicly accused Conor McGregor of displaying physical signs associated with cocaine and alcohol abuse. In a video on 'Instagram', the American and UFC commentator says that the Irishman appears to be ten years older than the organization's president, Dana White, 55 years old.

“They did a side-by-side comparison, it was Conor and Dana. I swear to God, Conor looked 10 years older than Dana White — and you could see it in his eyes. You could see the alcohol in his eyelids and the cocaine in his eyes, like he was saying, ‘I want to fight.’ And on the other side, the promoter, who is the only one in the world with the legal power to make this fight happen, was saying, ‘We’re not even close, I’m not even taking his calls right now,’” Sonnen said on his Instagram account.

The criticism comes amid a series of controversies involving McGregor. In November 2024, during a civil lawsuit for sexual assault — in which he was found guilty and ordered to pay more than €246 (around R$1,5 million) in damages — the fighter admitted to having used cocaine on the night of the incident in 2018. The case damaged his public image and resulted in the termination of commercial partnerships, including the removal of his face from campaigns for the whiskey brand Proper No. 12.

The relationship between McGregor and the UFC is also tense. Dana White recently stated that the former champion 'should not fight in 2025'. McGregor, however, insists on returning to the octagon.

Meanwhile, McGregor remains active on other fronts. In addition to promoting bare-knuckle boxing events (BKFC), the Irishman has announced plans to run for president of Ireland in 2025, a move seen as an attempt to rebuild his image after the scandals.
