Next to Alex Poatán and aware of the high level that the Brazilian can present in the octagon, Sean Strickland gave a sincere statement when commenting on the Brazilian's current moment in the UFC. Keeping an eye on his training partner's travel routine and commitments, 'Tarzan' suggested that the former champion stop and start focusing on his rematch against Magomed Ankalayev, so that he has a chance against the Russian next.
“Alex sacrificed too much. How many saves did he make while changing weight classes? Ankalaev just rested for a while. Alex is still a star. He can’t leave his house. Nobody knows who Ankalaev is. It takes a toll on his mind. If Alex would just step back, clear his mind and stop traveling all over the f*cking world, I think he has a legitimate chance to win,” Strickland said during an interview with Red Corner MMA.

After disagreements with the organization, Poatan remains active in his extracurricular commitments. Willing to increase the rivalry with the São Paulo native, Ankalaev takes advantage of opportunities to provoke his rival while claiming to be training instead of prioritizing travel and sponsors.

Defeated by Ankalaev in the UFC 313, Poatan lost the light heavyweight title (up to 93kg) after being defeated by the judges in a unanimous decision. The expectation is that a rematch will take place after September.
