Charles do Bronx blames Justin Gaethje's team for scale problem: 'they stole my belt'

Charles of the Bronx recently recalled the incident in Arizona (USA) that cost him the lightweight belt (up to 70,3 kg). In UFC 274, the then champion arrived at the official weigh-in about 200 grams over the championship limit. The Brazilian always maintained that he had checked beforehand and that everything was fine to make weight. A problem with the scales would have cost him the belt.

“Everybody knows they stole my belt. Man, people think that over 200 grams, they would let it go. But in reality, there was never 200 grams. I made weight on Thursday. I was fine,” he recalled. Charles of the Bronx in an interview with 'MMA Today'. 

During the interview, Charles revealed details of how events unfolded that day. He is convinced that the team was influenced by Justin gaethje.

“Look at this: first, his corner, his trainer was always near me, everywhere, as if he were part of the commission. These things don’t happen anywhere else, you know? So, honestly, there was nothing I could do. I fought in his city, in his commission, among his people. They just wanted to hand him the belt, but they couldn't do it right away. So they were trying to mess with my head, you know? That's the truth. But that's not going to change my mindset," he said.

In the duel inside the octagon, Charles of the Bronx emerged victorious. The Brazilian used his specialty, Jiu Jitsu. He submitted Jutin Gaethje in the first round of the main fight of the event. In the following fight, Do Bronx was defeated Islam makhachev in the fight for the vacant belt.

“I swear on everything that I made weight there. I made weight on Thursday. So, really, they just robbed me,” he concluded.
