In response to an interactive challenge promoted by the event's official profile 'Dirty Boxing Championship' on Instagram, Jon Jones, current UFC heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 kg), selected Tom aspinall, his main rival, in a hypothetical MMA 'dream team'.

The dynamics proposed by the event, of which 'Bones' is a partner, required fans to form teams of three athletes, with a budget of US$ 10, distributed among price categories (US$ 2, US$ 3 and US$ 5). In the list of options, nine names were offered, including the American himself. However, in his response in the comments, the holder of the linear belt opted to Yoel romero (US$ 5), Alex Poatán (US$ 3) to Tom aspinall (US$ 2).

Jones' absence from his own lineup was surprising, but Aspinall's inclusion was the focal point of the reactions. The Englishman, who has held the interim title since November 2023, has been publicly pressuring the American for a unification fight. Until now, the linear champion justified the postponement of the fight with a lack of interest in the fight and the possibility of retirement.

The relationship between the two champions is marked by contradictory public statements. While the British fighter demands recognition and a fight to legitimize his reign, 'Bones' downplays his rival's value to his legacy. Months ago, the British fighter even accused his opponent of 'impeding the progress' of the division.

The expectation for a unification of belts remains. The UFC is looking to schedule the duel for the fourth quarter of 2025, but resistance from Jon Jones is considered the main obstacle. Tom aspinall, in turn, maintains intense training and has already declared that 'patience is running out'.
