Undefeated in the UFC and eyeing the lightweight title (up to 70,3kg), Paddy Pimblett, despite wanting to reach the throne, is showing a willingness to be selective in the challenges he will propose to the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Even though Arman Tsarukyan is ranked number one, the Englishman plans to face Justin Gaethje in his next fight.

“I hope to fight in Abu Dhabi in October. I would love to fight ( Ilia Topuria ) anyway, but he’s booked, so I think it’s more than likely to be Justin Gaethje . Nobody (cares) about Arman Tsarukyan and people really want to see Gaethje fight. People know it will be an exciting fight, me against Gaethje. Tsarukyan is just a tool, and then it’s me and Gaethje. With a win, I’ll be fighting for the belt,” Pimblett declared in an interview with BBC Sport.

Ranked eighth in the lightweight division, Pimblett is coming off a brutal knockout of Michael Chandler in his last fight. Despite his desire to face Gaethje, the Englishman will need to convince the former title challenger to put his third-place ranking on the line in a potential bout.

Recent information has revealed that Gaethje was not happy with the choice of Charles Do Bronx to fight for the belt at UFC 317 and that his stance from this point on would be to wait for the winner of the duel between the Brazilian and Ilia Topuria , who will face each other for the undisputed title in the category.
