It seems that the soap opera involving Jon Jones, Tom aspinall and the UFC heavyweight belt (up to 120,2 kg) is already numbered. After months of uncertainty, the linear champion, who did not make it clear whether he would give the British fighter the opportunity to unify the titles, decided to come clean and feed the hope of the fans and, mainly, of his rival.

In a video published by the 'Inside Fighting' profile on Instagram, Jon Jones stated that there are important negotiations and decisions happening behind the scenes between him, Tom aspinall and the UFC. However, for legal or contractual reasons, he is unable to reveal details at this time.
“The UFC, myself and Tom, we all have a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes… Right now, Tom and I have agreed to wait for the UFC to make their announcements. So legally, I can’t talk about that.” Jon Jones.
Jon Jones won the vacant belt at finalize Cyryl Gane No. UFC 285, in March 2023. Since then, he has defended the title only once, in UFC 309, in November 2024, when he won Stipe Miocic, whereas, Tom aspinall won the interim belt by knocking out Sergei Pavlovich and defended him against Curtis blaydes. Since then, he has been waiting for his chance to unify the title with Jones' linear belt.
