Kayla Harrison wins belt at UFC 316, calls Amanda Nunes to the octagon and challenges Brazilian

Big favorite at bookmakers, judoka dominates Julianna Peña and forces rival to tap out in second round of fight

Two-time Olympic judo champion, Kayla harrison added another title to her career: the UFC bantamweight belt. A big favorite with bookmakers, the fighter dominated Julianna Pena and managed to use her flagship to achieve her greatest triumph in MMA. In the final seconds of the second round, the judoka applied Kimura and forced her rival to tap out.

After a moment of compassion, where she thanked everyone for cheering and for the positive rivalry created with Peña, Kayla challenged Amanda nunes to step into the octagon to face off. Leoa assured that she was back in the UFC and Kayla asked to put the belt against the Brazilian's legacy at stake.

The fighters began the title fight without touching gloves in the center of the octagon. With feints and studies, Julianna and Kayla sought the best distance to land blows. After having difficulty connecting punches, Harrison took the initiative and took her opponent to the fence and used a judo technique to take down the champion. Inside the guard, the two-time Olympic champion tried to raise her posture to deliver powerful blows and ended up being hit by three illegal pedal kicks. The referee immediately stopped the fight and took a point from Peña.

In the second round, Harrison started mixing kicks and punches while trying to close the distance to grab her opponent. Halfway through the round, the judoka managed to unbalance Peña and started working with elbows and brutal punches, while Julianna tried to apply a submission to scare her challenger. In the final seconds, Kayla managed to lock in a Kimura and force her opponent to tap out.
