The extensive novel involving Jon Jones, Tom aspinall and the heavyweight belts have been generating increasing dissatisfaction among UFC fans, who have already left almost 200 thousand signatures on an online petition for the organization to remove the title from 'Bones'. Leader of the American Kickboxing Academy and trainer of names such as Khabib Nurmagomedov e Islam makhachev, Javir Mendez believes that Ultimate has strategic reasons to keep things as they are.
In a recent edition of his own podcast, the trainer analyzed the current situation in the heavyweight category and opined that the delay is part of a strategic plan to increase interest in the fight.

“There will come a time when the UFC will say, 'You will fight or we will remove you.' As long as they know they are heading towards this fight between the two guys, they will continue to hold on. They don’t want to take the belt from Jon, because if they do that, they will lose this opportunity. If they keep playing and the media keeps playing along, the fight will continue to build. It’s a good move for both sides,” he said.
In a press conference held after the UFC 316, last Saturday (7), Dana White responded to the fans' petition, but did not show the slightest interest in removing the belt from Jon Jones.
