Scheduled for the main fight of UFC 317, Charles of the Bronx received an invitation which could mark one of the biggest recent unions between Brazilians in the UFC. About to face Ilia Topuria in search of regaining the lightweight belt, the former champion was approached by Jean Silva, who offered to help his compatriot prepare for the match against the Spaniard. However, the collaboration did not materialize.
In an interview with 'PVT', coach Diego Lima explained that, although he was happy with the initiative of Jean Silva, the invitation came at the last minute, as did the confirmation of the fight itself. According to him, the team already had a defined schedule and training underway, which made it impossible for the Fighting Nerds athlete to participate. Even so, Lima highlighted the mutual respect between the parties and stated that the doors remain open for future partnerships.

“I really like the Jean Silva, and he knows that. He's a guy I have a lot of respect for, and I know he has the same for me. We talked privately, and I was very happy that he offered. But the fight was scheduled very last minute, and we already had our entire schedule set, with a lot of things in progress... So everything ended up being very tight, and we weren't able to train together. But I know that the doors are open for us to train together in the future", said Diego Lima.
Since losing the title to Islam makhachev No. UFC 282, Charles of the Bronx returned to the octagon on three occasions: he was defeated by Arman Tsarukyan, but won Beneil Dariush e Michael chandler. Now, the Chute Boxe representative will have the chance to regain the lightweight belt in a duel against Ilia Topuria No. UFC 317, scheduled for June 28, during International Struggle Week.
