In the main fight UFC Atlanta, held last Saturday (14), Kamaru Usman showed why he is considered one of the greatest welterweights (up to 77kg) of all time. The Nigerian dominated Joaquin buckley and had his arm raised in the judges' decision. With the victory, in addition to ending a streak of three consecutive defeats, the former champion sent a message to those who still doubt his competitiveness.

In a press conference after the event, Usman revealed that he was dealing with personal issues when he accepted the fight against Khamzat Shimaev last minute. Because of this context, many fans and experts began to doubt his abilities. According to the Nigerian, he was underestimated, disrespected and forgotten as a great fighter, and the victory against Buckley served as a response to these criticisms.

“I was dealing with something before that fight, but I took the fight on short notice, and because of that, some people forgot that I can fight like hell. They were indifferent, a little brutal and disrespectful,” Usman said.

Kamaru Usman debuted in the UFC in 2015 and went on a 15-fight winning streak in the organization. The Nigerian reigned in the welterweight division between March 2019 and August 2022, until being dethroned by Leon edwards. Since then, he accumulated three consecutive defeats until defeating Joaquin buckley.
