Kayla harrison confirmed her favoritism and took the bantamweight (62,1 kg) belt by defeating Juliana Peña. The two faced each other in the co-main event of the UFC 316, on June 7, in Newark. But, despite entering the duel as an 'underdog', the 'Venezuelan Megadeth' revealed a serious reason for compromising her performance at the event: serious injuries.

“I was plagued by several injuries before that fight. It wasn’t good training for me in that sense, because I knew I was going into the fight with a pretty serious disadvantage. It crossed my mind [to give up], but it wasn’t bad enough that I had to not fight because I knew I could overcome it,” Peña said in interview to 'The Ariel Helwani Show'.

The former champion even cited the responsibility of her coaches for not taking her out of the fight. On the other hand, the athlete revealed that she does not regret having stepped into the octagon in New Jersey (USA).

“But it’s funny that my coaches probably didn’t explain to me the gravity of the situation, otherwise I would have thought more seriously about not competing. I don’t regret competing. I put in a lot of time. I took a lot of time away from other people, from my daughter, from my coaches and their families. So I don’t regret competing. I just wish I had competed under better circumstances,” he says. Julianna Pena
